A Tiro – A la deriva: animated music video

Producing this music video involved numerous stages and different software packages to make the most of every idea, note and feeling. It is a project we are proud of creating within a short period. Video is our passion, and this film received that same care.

Concept: after developing initial ideas with the music production company and the band, the animator and I explored the concepts further. We developed a more ambitious, complex approach, adding detail and nuance to an initial idea that still had more to offer.

Sketching: once the story was clear, we illustrated it. Sketches were created in Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop to explore the band’s preferences and different possibilities. With sketches close to the final vision, work moved to Adobe Flash, now Adobe Animate CC, and character animation began. Maite Templado carried out this extensive design work, while I contributed feedback and ideas.

Animatic: we prepared a rough version for the band, with limited movement and basic animation, to show the direction of the project.

Animation: Maite Templado animated the characters and created effects including explosions and a giant wave. After planning practically every frame in the script, she brought the characters to life.

Compositing and VFX: my work involved composing all the scenes, creating secondary animations in After Effects and adding fire, blur and many other effects. Maite and I planned the compositions closely, so that when a scene arrived I knew where each element should go and how it should move. Hundreds of expressions made compositing quicker and more efficient.

This was a substantial team effort, resulting in a music video worth sharing.
